Cross Jewelry
Cross jewelry, explained
The cross is the principal symbol of Christianity, and the most widely worn faith symbol in jewelry. It comes in many forms: the Latin cross with its longer lower arm, the equal-armed Greek cross, the Celtic cross with a ring around its center, and the crucifix, which carries the figure of Christ. Many people wear a cross for faith, some for family, and some for its shape alone.
How to choose a cross
Size and weight. A small cross on a fine chain sits close to the collarbone and suits everyday wear; a larger cross reads as a statement and needs a stronger chain, such as a rope, Franco or box chain. Metal. Yellow gold is traditional; white gold and two-tone crosses are quieter. Detail. A polished cross is timeless; diamond-set crosses add light. Check that the bail, the loop at the top, fits the chain you plan to wear.
What chain is best for a cross pendant?
For a small cross, a fine cable or box chain. For a heavier cross, a Franco or rope chain, which carry weight well.
Can you wear a cross if you are not religious?
Many people do. Know what it means to those who hold it sacred, and wear it with respect.
Is a sideways cross different?
It is a design variation, usually worn as a fashion piece rather than a religious one.
