Peelerie LLC (“Peelerie”, “we”, “our” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, keep and protect personal information when you visit peelerie.com, buy from us, join our mailing list or contact us.
Peelerie sells fine jewelry in gold and sterling silver, including jewelry set with lab-grown diamonds. This policy should be read with our Terms of Service, Refund Policy and Shipping Policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Orders: your name, billing and shipping addresses, email address, telephone number and order details.
- Account: if you create an account, your login details, saved addresses and order history.
- Private View and other mailing lists: your email address and your sign-up date.
- Messages: what you tell us when you email or call us, or request a return, exchange or warranty repair.
- Reviews: your name or initials, rating and review text, if you leave a review.
Identity verification for orders of $1,000 or more
To protect customers against card fraud, orders of $1,000 or more must be verified before dispatch (see our Order Verification page). Orders paid over time with Affirm or Klarna are not included, because those providers verify the buyer themselves. For these orders we ask for:
- A photo of a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport). You may cover the ID number, apart from its last four digits.
- A photo of the payment card used, showing only the cardholder name and the last four digits. Never send a full card number or security code.
- Your confirmation that you are the cardholder or are authorized to use the card.
You upload these through a private link to our secure verification form, and the photos are encrypted when they are stored. We use this information only to verify the order and prevent fraud. Access is limited to the staff who review it. We delete it 90 days after the order is completed, unless we need it longer to deal with a dispute, chargeback or legal requirement, in which case we delete it when that matter is closed. Some US state laws treat government ID information as sensitive personal information; we use it only for these permitted purposes and never for marketing.
Payment information
Payments are processed by WooPayments, WooCommerce’s payment service, which is powered by Stripe. Your full card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers. We receive confirmation of payment, the card type, its last four digits and fraud-screening results. If you pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay, Apple or Google also handles your payment under its own terms.
If you choose to pay over time with Affirm or Klarna, you complete your application with that provider. It collects the information it needs, makes its own credit decision, and uses your information under its own privacy policy. We receive confirmation of your order and payment, not your credit information.
Information collected automatically
When you visit peelerie.com, we and our service providers automatically collect some information from your browser and device, including your IP address and approximate location derived from it, browser and device type, pages and products viewed, referring site, and technical and security logs.
We use cookies and similar technologies for this. Some are essential for the site to work (for example your shopping bag, checkout and security). Others are used for analytics or advertising and are only used as described in section 4.
2. How we use personal information
- To process and deliver orders: taking payment, verifying orders of $1,000 or more, arranging delivery, and sending order and shipping messages.
- To provide customer service: answering questions and handling returns, refunds, exchanges and warranty claims.
- To run and improve the website: keeping it working and secure, fixing errors and understanding how it is used.
- For marketing, where permitted: sending Private View and other emails you have signed up for, and measuring our advertising.
- To prevent fraud and protect our business and customers.
- To meet legal obligations: tax and accounting records, consumer law, and responding to lawful requests.
We do not use personal information for purposes that are incompatible with these without telling you and, where required, asking for your consent.
3. Who we share personal information with
We share personal information only as needed for the purposes above:
- Website and hosting providers: our store runs on WordPress and WooCommerce and is hosted by Rocket.net, which uses Cloudflare to deliver and protect the site.
- Payment processing: WooPayments (WooCommerce) and Stripe; Apple Pay or Google Pay when you use them; and Affirm or Klarna if you choose to pay over time.
- Shipping carriers: your name, delivery address, telephone number and parcel details.
- Email providers: to send order messages and the emails you have subscribed to.
- Analytics and advertising providers, where enabled and permitted (see section 4).
- Professional advisers and authorities: lawyers, accountants and insurers, and courts, regulators or law enforcement where the law requires it or to protect our rights.
- A buyer or successor, if our business is sold or reorganized, subject to this policy.
We do not sell personal information for money. Some disclosures to advertising providers may count as “selling” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under certain US state laws; you can opt out as described in section 7.
4. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Essential cookies are always used because the site cannot work without them. Analytics and advertising technologies, such as Microsoft Clarity (which records how visitors use pages to help us improve them) and advertising tags from platforms such as Google, are only used where permitted by law and by your choices. Where the law requires consent, these technologies stay off until you agree, and you can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings on our site.
We treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may stop the shopping bag and checkout from working.
5. Email marketing
You will only receive marketing emails if you sign up, for example to Private View. When you sign up, we send one email asking you to confirm your email address, and you are added to the list only after you confirm.
Our marketing emails may tell us whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what is useful and send less of what is not. If you are a Private View member, we may also send an occasional note about pieces you looked at on peelerie.com.
Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email hello@peelerie.com to unsubscribe. Signing up is never a condition of purchase. Unsubscribing does not stop essential messages about your orders.
6. How long we keep information
- Order and transaction records: for as long as needed for orders, accounting, tax and legal obligations, generally seven years.
- Identity verification documents: 90 days after the order is completed, or until any dispute is closed.
- Customer service records: for as long as needed to resolve your request and keep proper records.
- Mailing list data: until you unsubscribe; we keep a record of the opt-out so we can respect it.
- Technical and security logs: for limited periods appropriate to security and troubleshooting.
When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it, subject to legal retention requirements. Information may remain in secure backups for a limited period before it is overwritten.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know and access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information.
- Receive a portable copy of your information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and of targeted advertising.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it.
- Appeal our decision on your request.
- Complain to a data protection authority.
To make a request, email hello@peelerie.com with the subject line “Privacy Request”, or use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page to opt out. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we respond within the time the law requires. If you use an authorized agent, we may ask for proof of their authority. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the subject line “Privacy Appeal”. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California and other US states. In the past 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (such as name, email address and IP address); customer records (such as billing and shipping details); commercial information (purchases and order history); internet activity (browsing and interactions with our site); approximate geolocation; and, for orders of $1,000 or more, government ID information used only for verification. We collect them from you, your device and our service providers, for the purposes in section 2, and disclose them to the categories of recipients in section 3. Identifiers and internet activity may be disclosed to advertising providers in a way that counts as sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out at any time.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom. We process personal information on these legal bases: to perform our contract with you (orders, delivery, returns); to meet legal obligations (tax, accounting, consumer law); our legitimate interests in running a secure and successful business, where these are not overridden by your rights (fraud prevention, improving the site, customer service); and your consent (marketing emails, non-essential cookies). Where we transfer information outside the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Peelerie LLC is the controller of your personal information.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, access controls and reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please contact us promptly if you think information about your order has been compromised.
9. International transfers
Peelerie is based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
10. Children
Peelerie.com is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Other websites
Our site links to other websites and services, such as social media. Their privacy practices are their own; please read their policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our business, service providers or the law. We will update the date at the top, and where a change requires notice or consent, we will provide it.
