PEOPLE

AN EMBOLDENED COMMUNITY

At Peelerie, we are committed to driving meaningful growth by setting ambitious standards for our partners and suppliers while fostering a positive social impact in the communities we serve.

Why It Matters

Operating in a globally connected market allows us to extend our positive influence beyond the scope of our business. Peelerie’s social impact initiatives and philanthropic efforts are deeply intertwined. Together with our customers, we aim to support causes and organizations that empower women and underrepresented groups, making a difference where it’s needed most.

Focus Area #1

We aim to collaborate with partners and vendors who share Peelerie’s dedication to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) values.

Methodology

  • Percentage of key vendors and partners committed to Peelerie’s DEIB principles.
  • Percentage of key vendors and partners demonstrating measurable progress against DEIB benchmarks.

October 2024 Update
Since setting this goal, we’ve been developing a robust DEIB framework to share with our suppliers and partners by the end of Q4. This framework will outline clear expectations for representation and inclusion, focusing on historically excluded communities.

Recognizing that setting standards is only the beginning, we’re dedicated to supporting our partners through resources and training programs designed to overcome challenges and achieve these shared objectives.

Focus Area #2

Our goal is to ensure our storefronts, corporate spaces, and fulfillment centers make meaningful contributions to the communities where we operate.

Methodology

  • Number of Peelerie in-store events.
  • Number of volunteer hours contributed by team members.
  • Number of individuals positively impacted by community-focused initiatives.

October 2024 Update
This year, we’ve prioritized in-store events and volunteering opportunities to empower our team and foster deeper connections with local communities. So far, we’ve hosted eight events across four locations, engaging over 3,500 attendees.

  • Number of Peelerie in-store events: 8
  • Number of volunteer hours: 110
  • Number of individuals positively impacted by community initiatives: 290

Volunteering Highlights:
In September, Peelerie launched our first corporate-wide “Act for Impact” campaign, where team members from across locations participated in assembling educational kits for underserved communities. These kits, along with handmade bookmarks, were donated to local nonprofits to make learning more inclusive. This year, our team members collectively dedicated 110 hours to volunteering efforts, positively impacting 290 community members.

A CULTURE OF BELONGING & GROWTH

At Peelerie, we are dedicated to cultivating an authentic and connected community where every member shapes our collective culture while focusing on personal and professional growth

Why It Matters

Meaningful progress begins with active listening. We are committed to ensuring that every voice at Peelerie is valued and heard. By engaging more deeply with our team members, we’ve gained insights that not only help us better support them but also refine our broader strategies to align with their needs and aspirations.

Focus Area #1

We aim to ensure that everyone at Peelerie embraces our values and actively contributes to building a culture of inclusion.

Methodology

  • Percentage of team members who self-report feeling empowered to influence Peelerie’s growth.
  • Percentage of team members who self-report feeling that Peelerie fosters an inclusive environment.

October 2024 Update
Since introducing this initiative, we’ve adopted several tools to ensure that team members feel valued and supported in their professional journeys. Our People Operations team leads the charge in inclusivity efforts by conducting regular pulse surveys and informal check-ins to gather feedback.

We are currently assessing and refining our strategies for measuring inclusivity to better align with our goals. Updates on this progress will be shared in our next report.

Focus Area #2

We seek to enhance and diversify Peelerie’s talent pipeline by forming partnerships to attract and support a wide range of talent from application to hire.

Methodology

  • Conversion rates across all job postings.
  • Candidate net promoter score.
  • Diversity metrics at executive levels (C-suite).
  • Diversity metrics across all employees.
  • Diversity metrics among leaders (VP level and above).

October 2024 Update
We have focused on gathering demographic and performance data to establish benchmarks for our diversity metrics.

In addition to setting measurable goals, we are actively implementing policies to reduce bias and ensure equitable support for all team members. Clear performance standards and tailored support for equity-seeking groups are central to this approach.

We will report annually on the diversity of our workforce across race, ethnicity, and gender identity, with updates included in our Sustainability Report each spring.

Focus Area #3

We are committed to fostering meaningful internal connections and supporting employees as they grow their skills and advance in their careers.

Methodology

  • Percentage of team members promoted annually.
  • Annual retention metrics.

October 2024 Update
Career growth at Peelerie reflects our inclusive workplace and how effectively team members are equipped to expand their skills and take on new challenges.

This year, we launched our “Leadership Development Initiative” to empower leaders in our operations and fulfillment centers. As part of our broader talent strategy, we are developing a detailed career progression framework and management expectations, set to roll out by Q4.

Tracking promotion and retention metrics allows us to assess our success in building a workplace that fosters meaningful career opportunities. These insights will be shared annually in our Sustainability Reports.

PLANET

CLIMATE POSITIVE

At Peelerie, we are committed to exceeding carbon neutrality within our value chain by actively working to remove additional carbon from the atmosphere. Through restoration and conservation projects in areas where we and our partners operate, we aim to make a measurable positive impact.

Why It Matters

The escalating climate crisis requires more than just meeting carbon reduction targets—it demands a focus on biodiversity and regenerative practices. The interconnected nature of climate change means collaboration is essential, allowing us to drive positive impacts that extend far beyond our direct value chain.

Focus Area #1

We are committed to achieving our science-based targets by reducing emissions throughout our operations and value chain.

Methodology

  • Percentage reduction in emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
  • Percentage of renewable energy used in Peelerie buildings.
  • Greenhouse gas intensity of customer shipments.
  • Percentage of suppliers making progress against environmental performance goals.
  • Percentage of renewable energy adoption by suppliers.

October 2024 Update
Peelerie has submitted a reduction target and plan to the Science Based Targets Initiative. By 2030, Peelerie commits to:

  • Reducing absolute emissions in Scopes 1 and 2 by 50%.
  • Reducing emissions intensity in Scope 3 by 52%.

This year, we took significant steps by defining near-term targets and drafting a company-wide roadmap to achieve climate-positive operations.

Roadmap Development
Building a climate target is only the beginning—the real challenge lies in creating actionable plans. We engaged teams across Peelerie to identify the most impactful areas for emissions reduction and began aligning business actions to meet these opportunities.

To guide our strategy, we collaborated with BSR to conduct a peer analysis, identifying effective measures adopted by similar supply chains. This analysis provided actionable insights and practical steps that will guide our implementation efforts.

Workshops were conducted with departments contributing to the highest emissions, including product development, supply chain operations, fulfillment logistics, and marketing. These sessions offered “GHG 101” training to raise awareness about Peelerie’s greenhouse gas footprint and its connection to each team’s activities. Participants left with actionable insights and priorities, which are being integrated into next year’s plans.

Our traceability programs and vendor engagement efforts have proven crucial to achieving these goals. As 2024 progresses, we will focus on testing near-term reduction strategies and refining solutions based on feasibility and impact.

Focus Area #2

We aim to create a lasting positive biodiversity impact through our partnerships and product initiatives.

Methodology

  • Mapping Peelerie’s biodiversity and water impacts across key raw material sourcing.
  • Prioritizing and developing actionable plans in areas with significant biodiversity impact.

October 2024 Update
In early 2024, Peelerie joined the UN Global Compact Biodiversity Working Group. This initiative enabled us to contribute to shaping best practices in corporate biodiversity reporting and provided essential guidance for implementing biodiversity strategies.

One outcome of this effort was the “Getting Started Guide,” developed by the UNGC Network and WSP. This guide highlighted practical steps for assessing biodiversity impacts, which Peelerie is actively applying.

In the latter half of 2024, our focus has been on mapping significant biodiversity impacts, examining critical activities and geographies. These assessments will form the foundation for actionable plans aimed at creating meaningful ecological benefits in the regions where we operate.

PRODUCTS

100% CIRCULARITY

Our commitment to designing products and packaging with their entire lifecycle in mind is second to none. By creating circular pathways—such as repair, resale, and recycling—we aim to preserve resources, minimize waste, and support a sustainable future

Why It Matters

Circular design principles are essential for any sustainable business to conserve resources and reduce environmental impact. At Peelerie, circularity is deeply aligned with our Climate Positive goal. We embed these principles across all areas of our business, from product design to packaging, ensuring we reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle at every step of the process.

Focus Area #1

Ensure all Peelerie products have an end-of-life solution for customers.

Methodology

  • Units repaired through Peelerie’s repair program.
  • Prioritization of materials suitable for reuse, recycling, or regeneration.
  • Number of products made with recycled content.
  • Percentage of biodegradable or commonly recyclable packaging materials.
  • Percentage of products derived from regenerative practices.

October 2024 Update
Peelerie is in the planning phase of our repair program, collaborating with repair centers across North America—including the US, Canada, and Mexico. These centers will ensure each product receives proper care. Items beyond repair will either be replaced (based on warranty coverage) or responsibly recycled.

While the program was originally set to launch in 2024, delays have pushed the rollout to 2025. We remain committed to launching a robust program that reflects our values and enhances product longevity.

Focus Area #2

Prioritize materials that can be reused, recycled, or regenerated.

Methodology

  • Percentage of products made with recycled content.
  • Percentage of materials sourced through regenerative practices.
  • Percentage of packaging that is biodegradable or commonly recyclable.

October 2024 Update
Our material sourcing achievements include:

  • 93.8% of gold and 92.3% of silver used in Peelerie products are sourced from recycled materials.
  • 282 ounces of gold sourced through regenerative practices were used in a limited collection of four products.

Peelerie has also deepened its partnership with Regeneration through a $1.5M investment, incorporating Salmon Gold into our supply chain. This nature-positive gold links our products to habitat restoration efforts, increasing traceability and supporting ecosystems.

In June, we launched our first capsule collection using Salmon Gold, successfully integrating 282 ounces of this material. Due to its success, we plan to expand the use of Salmon Gold in future collections, advancing our commitment to sustainability and circularity.

Our packaging has also undergone a sustainability-driven redesign to prioritize:

  • The use of recycled materials.
  • Elimination of plastic.
  • Incorporation of reuse and recyclability principles.

Additionally, 14% of customers this year have opted for our reduced packaging option, and we’re working to grow this number further.

Focus Area #3

Reduce and redirect waste produced at Peelerie offices, stores, and warehouses.

Methodology

  • Weight (in tons) of waste diverted from landfills.
  • Year-over-year reduction in waste production.

October 2024 Update
Notable progress has been made in waste reduction:

  • 708.78 lbs of plastic waste were diverted from landfills in the first half of 2024.
  • 1,875.39 lbs of plastic waste have been recycled since the launch of our Terracycle program in 2023.

Peelerie continues to improve waste management processes by gathering high-quality data to track progress effectively. Collaborating with fulfillment centers and retail teams, we are identifying new opportunities for waste reduction and expanding our roadmap for improvement.

To address the challenge of recycling commonly used poly bags in the jewelry industry, we partnered with specialty recycler Terracycle. This partnership has already given new life to over 1,875 lbs of plastic film, with efforts underway to expand recycling capacity as Peelerie’s retail footprint grows.

By fostering collaborations, partnerships, scholarships, and donations, we aim to empower individuals to achieve their goals and create meaningful change in their industries and communities.

Why It Matters

365 Days of Action: Reproductive Rights Campaign

We at Peelerie are committed to using our voice and reach to advocate for equal rights and protect access to reproductive healthcare. Through fundraising events, community initiatives, and educational campaigns, we aim to mobilize our community and shed light on the critical issues at hand.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade represents an alarming rollback of reproductive rights. This decision is a direct attack on our team—79% of whom identify as women, with 36% based in the U.S.* It’s a stark reminder of the importance of collective action to safeguard the rights and freedoms we all deserve.

To amplify our impact, we’ve partnered with Don’t Ban Equality, a coalition of nonprofits including Planned Parenthood Federation of America, BSR, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Together with like-minded brands, we’re working to create meaningful change and advocate for equal rights across all platforms.

“Peelerie partnered with us to integrate sustainability with a focus on social justice, prioritizing the health and well-being of their employees and surrounding communities. By collaborating with other brands, this initiative leverages their influence to champion women’s access to safe healthcare.”

–Business for Social Responsibility

We’ve enhanced our benefits program to provide comprehensive reproductive coverage, including:

  • No-questions-asked time off
  • Travel and lodging reimbursements for employees needing to access abortion care out of state
  • Full insurance coverage for all contraceptives without cost-sharing

Design Thinking Africa

Our partnership with Design Thinking Africa marks the launch of our Empowerment Fund’s philanthropic efforts within our global supply chain. This initiative empowers women in Zambia by teaching them precision skills in gemstone cutting and polishing, fostering growth for themselves and their communities.

In 2023, scholarships were awarded to ten women to enhance their polishing expertise. The ultimate vision of this collaboration is to enable Zambian women to drive local economic development by providing jewelers with ethically mined and expertly polished stones directly from Zambia.

“Through this opportunity, I’m not only gaining technical expertise but also contributing to the economic growth of my hometown.”
– Linda Chileshe, Scholarship Recipient

Charitable Initiatives

Founded in 2020, our Empowerment Fund is dedicated to supporting women and non-binary individuals by providing access to both traditional and non-traditional education, empowering them to design the life they envision.

As of today, we’ve contributed $823,000 USD through scholarships and advocacy partnerships across the US and Canada. Some of the initiatives we’ve supported include:

  • Indspire: Building Brighter Futures (BBF)
  • United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
  • Design Thinking Africa
  • Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA)

Regeneration: The Innovative Re-Mining Initiative

Across the globe, there are hundreds of thousands of abandoned mines, known as “legacy mines.” If left unaddressed, these mines pose a serious threat to vulnerable ecosystems, watersheds, and native species.

As proud Founding Partners and the exclusive jewelry sector partner of Regeneration, a groundbreaking re-mining initiative from RESOLVE, we are committed to rehabilitating these legacy mining sites. Our mission is to restore the affected natural environments and help drive positive environmental change.

“Empowering women to master the art of gemstone polishing in Zambia is an essential step toward reshaping the industry, fostering inclusivity, and driving ethical sourcing on a global scale.”

– Sarah Johnson, CEO of Global Diamond Trading

Regeneration is a pioneering approach to mining that focuses on restoring and regenerating ecosystems impacted by traditional mining practices.

By prioritizing environmental recovery and the responsible sourcing of materials, this initiative seeks to turn past mining activities into opportunities for ecological renewal. Through advanced techniques and collaboration with local communities, Regeneration aims to create a sustainable supply of precious materials while enhancing biodiversity and reversing environmental degradation. This revolutionary model is shaping the future of mining by blending sustainability with innovation.
